Keegan Carter (b. 1992) is a Los Angeles–based visual artist exploring self-concept through textures and layering techniques. Working in amate, the handmade bark paper of Mexico, alongside resin and wood, Carter builds and separates surfaces as stand-ins for the parts of the self, asking how much of who we are is known through the body before the mind catches up. He came to painting as an adult, developing his practice in tandem with a career in big tech. Carter has exhibited in Los Angeles, Oakland, Brooklyn, and Atlanta, and holds a BS from Georgetown University.
